and a multiple of that as orchid flowers hybrids which come from the lab and nursery and via online orchids into the living room. The creation of hybrids started in 1853 and in 1856 the first flower was ready. This progress kick started big business since almost everyone likes this colorful beauty but they only were available in remote areas, target of expeditions and poaching this changed now.

Collectors are still after species in the same way as after other rare tropical flowers and pay high prices for but it’s extremely rare

to find any new species in our time. People have been almost everywhere there is almost no “corner” of the planet which hasn’t been discovered and searched. A good substitution which wont hurt anyone are our orchid pictures from the orchid nursery and garden.

A cattleya is one of the most popular orchid flower others are Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Oncidium, Phalaenopsis, and Vanda they stand for about 80% of all orchid trade.

This business has grown into a big one with orchid growing in the Netherlands they got the largest market share, although the Netherlands are not in a climate zone suitable for growing orchids, the do it in the green house. They have lots of experience over decades how to grow flowers in the green house.

Today its very easy to find this beauty via online orchids or by visiting a nursery. The easiest is to go to a nursery and get cut flowers, a pretty orchid bouquet is quickly put together, the plants will stay for about 2 weeks when treated and taken care properly. After they are gone just buy some new plants.

A bit more complicated is to buy the flowers in a pot and grow them which naturally takes more attention as a bouquet of tropical flowers.

In a tropical climate it is very popular to fix the plants in a wooden container and just let them dangle in the air maybe in front of the house.

Another possibility is, to put them into a cut coconut shell and fix them on a tree, it needs to be careful which side to choose, don’t take the weather side where rain is banging onto, they will die there.
